CFAC: Consumer and Family Advisory Committee
Mandated as an integral part of Mental Health Reform in North Carolina , every region in the state has created a CFAC for the purpose of giving consumers and families a formal structure through which they can monitor system progress and advocate for needed changes. The group is comprised entirely of consumers of mental health, substance abuse, or developmental disability services and their family members.
OPC's CFAC was begun in January, 2002 and has from the start been an independent group, self organized, and active in OPC's reform planning.
The CFAC meets monthly and has developed by-laws and has elected officers. The CFAC has also had a standing delegate on the OPC Steering committee, a group comprised of County Commissioners and County Managers from our three counties charged with managing reform in our region. The group filed a formal review of OPC's business plan with the State of NC at the time the plan was submitted.
